Travel Reports with Tips for Vacationing in Austria

I can't say exactly how many times I've been to Austria. Both in summer and winter, our neighboring country has much to offer - Austria is one of my favorite travel destinations! The Alps particularly shape the landscape. Here you will find all the information and travel reports for your next vacation in Austria.

German is, of course, the language spoken in Austria, although some German tourists may not understand local dialects (as someone from Swabia, I have the advantage that many expressions are similar).

Popular cities for city trips include Vienna, Bregenz, Innsbruck, and Salzburg.

Families love vacations by Lake Constance and the adjacent Bregenzerwald, the Wörthersee, or the famous ski areas in Vorarlberg and Tyrol. In summer, these regions are a paradise for families, mountain bikers, climbers, and hikers.

The views of the mountains are always a pleasure. I love just sitting there and enjoying the scenery. Here, the time of travel doesn't matter either. Every season has something special in Austria (especially if, like me, you love snow and winter sports).

My favorite ski resorts in Austria are Montafon (where I went year after year as a child, no longer ideal for me as a snowboarder), Bregenzerwald (so close), Sölden, Warth-Schröcken, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Serfaus (perfect for kids), Kaunertal, Zell am See, and Kitzbühel.

There are countless others that I've surely forgotten. There is still much to discover!

General Travel Tips

Traveling by Car or RV

To drive on highways in Austria, a toll fee is necessary. You can purchase the vignette for Austria as a sticker just before the border or from ADAC (more expensive). I prefer the digital vignette for paying the route toll.

Here you can find all the information about the digital vignette

Note: Mountain passes are closed in winter!
