Attractions & Activities in Bad Wildbad
Our perfect weekend in Bad Wildbad with a camper - the highlights will follow in this article.
The spa town of Bad Wildbad is located in a valley between the mountains. The town has two thermal baths, and with Sommerberg offering many opportunities for excursions, there's no chance of getting bored.
Here I will tell you what you can do on a weekend in Bad Wildbad. We also come here for a day trip, because kids love the playground, the treetop path, and the Wildline suspension bridge. For mountain bikers, a trip to the Northern Black Forest is also worth it. Read more here in the individual sections.
Attractions in Bad Wildbad
What must-see attractions are in Bad Wildbad? These are my highlights, as the town has much more to offer than spa parks and thermal baths. Younger people will also find several highlights here:
- Treetop Path Black Forest
- Wildline Suspension Bridge
- Sommerberg Railway
- Bikepark Bad Wildbad
- Thermal Baths
- Adventure Forest at Sommerberg
- Hike to Grünhütte
How many days in Bad Wildbad?
Three days in Bad Wildbad is ideal. If you plan excursions and hikes at Sommerberg and want to relax in a thermal bath, a weekend is sufficient. If you really want to unwind, you should plan for a week.
Sommerberg
For us, the highlight is Sommerberg. We take the Sommerberg Railway up to the excellently developed natural area for relaxation. Here you have numerous opportunities for adventure, adrenaline, and nature.
- Treetop Path Black Forest with a spiral slide down 2. Adventure Forest 3. Wildline Suspension Bridge 4. Hiking Trails 5. Bikepark Bad Wildbad 6. Sommerberg Railway
Here you will find our tips for Sommerberg:
1. Treetop Path Black Forest
The Treetop Path Black Forest stretches over 1,250 meters to the height of the treetops of spruces, firs, and beeches. Especially for children, the educational and experience stations on the way up are a small adventure in themselves.
Small wooden blocks for balancing, audio commentaries, and a comic rally provide entertainment and knowledge for young and old visitors. The highlight is reached at the 40-meter high observation tower that spirals upward. It is also suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
The 360-degree view over the northern Black Forest is magnificent. Especially in autumn, when the leaves and needles of the trees begin to change color. The Black Forest lies at your feet here!
For my nephew, the absolute highlight is the 55-meter-long slide down. For 2 euros, anyone can take on the thrilling descent.
Info and Tickets:
- Opening hours: Daily from 9:30 AM to 6 PM or 7 PM, depending on the season. In winter, only open until 4 PM.
- Admission: 11 euros per person, children aged 6 to 14: 9 euros. Children under 6 are free. More information and online ticket booking (I recommend booking tickets online in advance to avoid standing in long lines).
2. Adventure Forest for Kids: A Paradise
As soon as we arrived by slide from the Treetop Path, nephew Henry was off again. From above, he noticed the Adventure Forest for children. A large forest playground with a bouncy trampoline, slides, sandpits, cable cars, and climbing stations. Another paradise for children. Really well made!
- Visitors aged 3 and up: 7 €
- Family ticket: (2 adults with their own children up to 14 years): 20 €
- If you already have a ticket for the Treetop Path or the Wildline on the same day, you receive a 1 euro discount.

3. Hike to Grünhütte
The easy round hike to Grünhütte and back is ideal and not demanding. You can truly enjoy nature in this way. The 11 km is manageable for everyone. We take about 2.5 hours for it. Only Henry finds it a bit boring since he lacks entertainment on the way (he loves adventure trails).
Grünhütte is a popular excursion destination, as the reputation of the blueberry pancakes precedes it. They are truly delicious and simply huge! Definitely try them. Warning: Especially on summer weekends it gets very crowded here; you should plan for waiting times if you want to eat.
4. Wildline Suspension Bridge
The Wildline Suspension Bridge leads 380 meters over the 60-meter-deep Enztal of Sommerberg. The construction is extraordinary, because for a suspension bridge, it 'hangs' not downward, but arches upward in the middle!
The walk across it is great, but probably not suitable for everyone. You should be free of acrophobia and have no issues with this swaying 'Wildline'. The view over the treetops is also incredibly spectacular.
Through the grid at the bottom, you can look deep down. As mentioned, it sways quite a lot when a few visitors walk over the bridge.
More Information about the Wildline:
- Opening hours: Daily from 9 AM to 7:30 PM, in winter until 4:30 PM
- Tickets can be purchased at the respective entrances via machines for 9 euros (adults) and 6 euros (children aged 6 - 14 years).
- More information on the website
5. More Action: Bikepark Bad Wildbad
During this visit, we didn't pay attention to the bike park! As big downhill fans, we will surely return soon to test the bike park. On six different trails, both beginners and pros can race down the Black Forest.
6. Sommerberg Railway Bad Wildbad
If at the end of the day you don't feel like hiking back down, take the Sommerberg Railway down. The highest funicular railway in Baden-Württemberg is always an experience, especially for children.
Halfway up, there is a switch where the two trains meet. An experience for kids.
More Notes on Sommerberg
If you don't want to take the train up, you can also drive up in your car. There is a parking lot (but only with limited capacity). For up to 4 hours, you pay 6 euros; afterward, the daily maximum rate of 7 euros. There are also cheaper rates, but in my opinion, it's not worth it to come up for just 2-3 hours.
Hike at Wildsee and Wildseemoor
From Kaltenbronn or Sprollenhaus, you can start the approximately 8.5 or 12.5 kilometer hike to a pristine moorland around Wildsee. The high moor area is a nature reserve, so please respect nature and stay on the path over the planks (it leads over a real moor).
The circular path also passes by Grünhütte (see Sommerberg), where you should take a break and try the blueberry pancakes. The high moor is a quiet place that is not as frequented as the other hiking trails at Sommerberg.
Info about the Tour:
- You can start the hike either in Kaltenbronn or at Sprollenhaus, a district of Bad Wildbad. The path from Kaltenbronn is much busier, but much longer or shorter depending on the route. I would recommend starting from Sprollenhaus.
- For the hike, you should plan about 2.5 - 3 hours without breaks. Depending on where you start.
Thermal Baths
In the thermal baths of Vital Therme and the Große Herrenbad in Palais Thermal, you can relax in the warm spring water, take courses, or visit the sauna. The baths are particularly beautiful with oriental arches, decorated columns, and mosaics.
More Tips and Info
If you, like us, are traveling with a motorhome, you should park along the road at the parking lot, which is also marked as a motorhome parking area. We met many people who also stayed overnight here. I prefer the Kleinenzhof campground, which is located 9 km outside the center of Bad Wildbad. Here you can rent E-bikes to cover the distance faster and easier.
- Camper spot at Kurpark, Kernerstraße 126 75323 Bad Wildbad (9 spots up to 10 meters, 2 spots over 12 meters), including waste disposal/collection, water for 2 euros for 5 minutes, electricity 2 euros for 8 hours
- Camper parking fee: 15 euros per day (including tourist tax for 2 people)
- If you go to the tourist information in Bad Wildbad with the parking ticket (located on the way to the valley station of the Sommerbahn), you will receive your KONUS guest card (mandatory), which provides you with some discounts and benefits.
