Northern Tanzania is the most popular destination for safaris in the country. Here you will find some of the best and most famous national parks such as Serengeti National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Tarangire National Park, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

These parks are renowned for their wealth of wildlife and breathtaking landscapes.

The best time to visit these parks is between June and October during the dry season. During this time, the vegetation is sparse, and the animals tend to gather near rivers and waterholes, making it easier to spot them on game drives. Additionally, the temperatures are milder during this time, and it is not too hot.

Best Months for Climbing Kilimanjaro

The Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and one of Tanzania's most popular attractions. The mountain can be climbed year-round, but certain seasons are better suited due to weather conditions along the trails.

The peak season lasts from mid-June to mid-October, while the off-peak season runs from November to February (excluding December). During the peak season, temperatures are cooler, but there may be more rain. In the off-peak season, temperatures are usually warmer, but it typically rains less, so you won't have to worry about your hike being delayed by bad weather.

We hiked the Machame Route on Kilimanjaro in early December. It rained lightly off and on, but we were lucky according to locals, and the conditions were ideal.

Zanzibar is an island off the coast of mainland Tanzania known for its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. The best time to visit Zanzibar depends on what kind of experience you are looking for, as different months offer various experiences based on weather and tourist traffic.

If you want summery temperatures and fewer crowds year-round, the months of October-November or March-May are ideal, as they fall outside of peak travel times (December-February and June-August).

However, if you prefer higher temperatures and more visitors, the months of December to February or June to August are better suited as they fall into Zanzibar's peak season.

Upon our arrival in mid-December, the humidity was extremely high, but over the week it became increasingly pleasant. There was no rain, and the northeast coast was almost deserted and beautiful.

Conclusion

Tanzania has something to offer for everyone. No matter what season you choose - whether you want to experience an African safari adventure in northern Tanzania, climb Kilimanjaro, or relax on a beach holiday in Zanzibar - there is always something exciting waiting around every corner! I am totally enthusiastic about this country (and I've traveled to many African countries).

Each destination has its own "best time," which depends on weather conditions and tourist traffic, but overall it is essential to plan ahead before visiting Tanzania to make your experience as enjoyable as possible! So pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable trip!

We were in Tanzania from early December to just before Christmas. First, we hiked Kilimanjaro, then explored the famous national parks in northern Tanzania, and finally spent time on Zanzibar for a beach holiday just before Christmas. The timing was perfect: early December had very little rain, it was pleasantly warm, and only initially in Zanzibar was it extremely humid with high humidity.
